Why a Road Trip.. 1st in a series..

An activity that has been near and dear to my heart for my entire life… Both my father and mother had a bit of the “wanderlust” gene that has been clearly passed down to me. Ever since I can remember, I have loved the idea of being out on the open road. The idealism of it, the act of preparing for the journey, to packing the car… I am so excited by the anticipation the night before I leave that I can rarely get a full 6 hours of sleep. (I’m an insomniac anyway)

There is a question “why” take a road trip…? and I understand that to some, being in the car is a prison sentence, while to others it is as close to flying as we can get. When you have a reason to change your horizon and gain perspective a road trip can be a solution to that. A way to clear your head, see the world outside of your world.

So, where do you fit…

  • Love it, coast to coast…
  • A means to an end, point A to B…
  • I’d rather go to the dentist, if its longer than 30 min, I’m booking a flight…

I’m not hear to sell you on the idea of being out on the open road, merely put in context. Just like anything, you can take it to the extreme… Plan exotic destinations, hotels, meals, scenic byways and on an on. Or, you can fill up the tank, make a call and be on your way.

There are so many components to consider when pulling a road trip together there is no right or wrong way to do it. Everyone does what has worked for them in the past, also getting advice from friends and family as to what has worked for them.

In the weeks to come, I will continue this series with specifics and ideas for a more enjoyable road trip experience.
